ABOUT THIS ESTIMATOR
The Retirement Estimator is intended to assist you in estimating your monthly (early reduced or regular unreduced) service retirement benefits. It does not calculate disability retirement benefits, and it cannot replace the Retirement System’s actual calculation of benefits when you retire. If you have Agricultural Extension service, are converting from disability to service retirement, or have multiple accounts, this estimate will not be accurate, and you should contact the Retirement System for information.
If you are a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), you may retire early with a reduced retirement benefit after you reach age 50 and complete 15 years of creditable service as an officer. You may also retire early with a reduced retirement benefit at any age, completing 25 years of creditable service with at least 15 years as an officer. To obtain a benefit estimate, you should contact the Retirement Systems for information.
To obtain a benefit estimate using your actual retirement account information, please log on to ORBIT and click View Your Benefit Estimate. This estimator is not a guarantee that you will receive the benefit options calculated by its use. Future legislative changes may result in a different estimate of benefits. The benefit you receive from the Retirement System will be determined by the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer Retirement Systems Division when you retire and elect the option available to you at that time.
DISCLAIMER: The information provided here is intended to serve as a general source of reference for early reduced and regular unreduced service retirement benefits from the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System and the Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System. This estimate does not reflect the retirement benefit amount that will be payable for retirement dates on and after January 1, 2015, if the benefit exceeds the IRS section 415(b) annual pension benefit limit. If you were hired on or after January 1, 2015 as a TSERS or LGERS employee and your benefit exceeds the Contribution-Based Benefit Cap, this estimate may not reflect the retirement benefit that will be payable. While the information is intended to be as accurate as possible, it is subject to the detailed provisions of the North Carolina General Statutes. The information provided by running an estimate cannot alter, modify, or otherwise change the controlling legal documents or North Carolina General Statutes in any way, nor can any right accrue by reason of any information provided or omission of information provided herein. The information provided in the estimate serves as a general resource in planning for your financial future.
